Return to Rhythm

Return to Rhythm is a structured 16-day program at Longevity Labs, The Shops at Mauna Lani, for women, men and couples facing burnout, depression, anxiety, hormonal change or a metabolic wake-up call. You work with one physician, Dr. Kristy King, from the first lab draw to the day you fly home. Starts are rolling.

Programs are scheduled at least two months after your consultation so testing can be completed.

Everything included

Testing before you arrive

  • A focused blood panel of about 20 markers: hormones, thyroid, glucose and insulin, lipids with ApoB, inflammation, iron, vitamin D and B12.
  • DNA 360 (once); BiomeFx gut microbiome; Cellular Micronutrient Assay.
  • TruAge pace of aging (DunedinPACE, an epigenetic measure, repeated at three months).
  • DUTCH Plus cortisol curve and hormone metabolites; urine BPA and phthalates.
  • A continuous glucose monitor shipped with your kit.

During the program

  • Six physician-administered ketamine sessions (for candidates), with Dr. King present.
  • A brain map (qEEG) at the start and end, and about ten neurofeedback sessions on FDA-cleared BrainMaster equipment.
  • Clinical hypnosis before ketamine and for integration afterward.
  • Daily slow breathing with live heart rhythm feedback (HeartMath), and a take-home sensor.
  • Three personalized whole-food, plant-based meals delivered to your lodging every day, with electrolytes and coconut water.
  • Movement, including Journey Dance, a guided music and movement class taught by Dr. King at the studio downstairs from the clinic. Strength for midlife bodies: heavy lifting, short sprint intervals and jump training, with protein soon after training, because women's bodies respond to training differently than men's, especially through and after menopause.
  • Sauna on non-ketamine days; a ride to your lodging after every ketamine session.

At the end

  • Repeat measures and a written plan for your own doctor.
  • Up to six months of hormone therapy when appropriate.
  • For Hawaii Island residents, a connection to local produce boxes through Kohala Food Hub, so the way you ate here continues at home.

We measure pace of aging epigenetically instead of telomere length, because telomere tests vary too much from one draw to the next to show real change.

Three tracks

Her Return

Built for female physiology: perimenopause and menopause, estrogen, progesterone and testosterone, bone density, and the ways stress and hormones meet in a woman's body.

His Return

Built for male physiology: testosterone evaluation and treatment when appropriate, with monitoring of red blood cell count and prostate health, fertility counseling for men who want children, and earlier attention to heart risk.

Return Together

For couples. Each partner has their own medical plan, chart and consent. You share coherence sessions where we measure both heart rhythms at once and watch them come into step, and you each have private time with Dr. King. Ketamine sessions are always individual.

Men and women are different physiologically, and each track is designed for that from the first lab draw.

Before you arrive

Screening questionnaires and a focused blood panel of about 20 markers, including hormones and cardiometabolic markers, are completed near home before you travel. Your plan is drafted before day one.

What arrives after you book

A welcome letter and your schedule, your screening questionnaires, a lab requisition, your DNA, microbiome, micronutrient, DUTCH Plus, pace of aging and urine test kits, a continuous glucose monitor, and a guide to lodging near the clinic.

Your first brain map is scheduled at the start of your stay.

The four pillars

Bone

Estrogen protects bone. Hormone therapy lowers hip fracture risk, one of the best established findings in women's medicine. We review your bone health and your hormone options together.

Brain

Depression, alcohol, blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, inactivity and isolation are among the 14 risk factors the 2024 Lancet Commission linked to dementia. Return to Rhythm works on many of them at once.

Heart

Lipids, glucose, insulin and blood pressure measured at the start and again before you leave, with a plan to carry forward.

Mind

Physician-administered ketamine sessions with Dr. King present, clinical hypnosis, breathwork and heart rate variability training, in a sequence built on published research.

Coming back into coherence

When your nervous system is steady, your heart rhythm rises and falls in a smooth, even wave. Stress, poor sleep, hormone shifts and constant screens break that rhythm up. We measure your coherence when you arrive and again before you leave, using your heart rhythm, your daily stress-hormone curve and your sleep. Then you practice coming back into it every day, with slow breathing and live heart rhythm feedback, hypnosis, and time away from your phone.

Ready before, steady after

What happens around a ketamine session matters as much as the session itself. That is why the first three days come before any medicine. You learn slow breathing, hypnosis and simple ways to bring your body back to steady when it is stirred up, so that during and after each session you can stay with what comes up without being flooded by it.

Before your first session we sit down together and name what you came here to change. After every session there is protected rest and integration time, with hypnosis recordings, movement and the ocean, to help what shifted settle into your body and your daily life.

Brain training

Return to Rhythm includes neurofeedback on FDA-cleared BrainMaster equipment. Before your program we map your brain's electrical activity (a quantitative EEG, or qEEG) and compare it with healthy people your age. Each measure is shown as a Z-score: how many standard deviations you sit from that average, where zero is typical. During your stay you train with live feedback that rewards your brain as it moves toward steadier patterns, and we map again at the end so you can see your own change. It is completely non-invasive: no radiation, no injected tracers, just sensors on a soft cap.

What we look at

  • Attention patterns, such as the balance of slow theta and faster beta waves often seen with ADHD.
  • Patterns linked with anxiety and low mood.
  • Your stress response and how it shifts with training.

Neurofeedback is a training method. Research support is strongest for attention, and emerging for anxiety and mood. It can be an option before medication or alongside it, and it is not a substitute for diagnosis. FDA clearance covers the equipment, which is cleared for relaxation training.

How we measure

How we measure
Before you arriveA focused blood panel of about 20 markers: hormones, thyroid, glucose and insulin, lipids with ApoB, inflammation, iron, vitamin D and B12. Your DNA once, your gut microbiome, your pace of aging (DunedinPACE), your daily cortisol curve and hormone metabolites (DUTCH Plus), and a urine test for BPA and phthalates. A continuous glucose monitor arrives with your kit so we see your baseline before you travel. You also write, in your own words, the three things you most want to be different. We return to them at the end and again at three months, alongside the standard scores.
During the programA continuous glucose monitor and daily heart rhythm training.
At the endYour mood scores, your three goals in your own words, heart rhythm coherence, sleep, glucose, lipids and urine chemicals again.
At three monthsA1c, ApoB, hormones and your pace of aging once more.

A digital reset

Screens and social media now shape how we sleep, focus and feel, and the isolation of the pandemic years left many of us more alone than we realized. Before you arrive, we ask for your phone's own weekly screen-time report. During Return to Rhythm, mornings are phone-light, the hours after each ketamine session are screen-free, and every day includes real time with real people. You leave with your before-and-after numbers and a plan for home.

Every day includes morning breath training, three delivered meals, and phone-light mornings. Sauna and cold plunge are never on ketamine days. Couples share coherence and dance sessions; ketamine is always individual. Your exact schedule is set with you before you arrive.

Is it right for me?

Some people are not candidates for ketamine, and heavy daily drinking needs medical care before travel. You can talk through whether this program fits with Dr. King.
